Nepal has recorded 516 straight days without a rhino poaching incident, according to Chitwan National Park (CNP) officials. 

The last known poaching case occurred on November 16, 2023, when two rhinos were killed in the Chaparchuli area. Authorities arrested nine individuals shortly after the incident.

Since then, the park has strengthened its anti-poaching strategy. 

The Park officials said that 24 rhino deaths were reported this fiscal year, and all were due to natural causes, including tiger and crocodile attacks, fights among rhinos, and old age.

In the previous fiscal year, 21 rhinos died, 18 of which died due to natural causes, two due to poaching, and one under unknown circumstances. 

Nepal's rhino population reached 752 in the 2021 census, with 694 residing in CNP. A new census planned for this year was postponed due to budget issues, but monitoring efforts have increased.
